*A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.
The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.
The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.
The little girl said, "When i get to heaven I will ask Jonah."
The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"
The little girl replied, "Then you ask him?"

Yeah, it's cute-funny. Little girl gets the better of learned teacher. He momentarily suspends his disbelief for the sake of argument and she innocently traps him.

The teacher is, of course, correct, but he made the mistake of symbolically giving ground because no communication was going on. That's the joke. If she had stepped into his territory, it wouldn't be funny because he's more knowledgeable and it would be intellectual bullying.

But that's what teaching is, disabusing the ignorant of erroneous ideas. She was wrong about the whales, he was right. But it didn't matter because he stepped into her territory. It's the same joke as, "I'll prove to you this gun is not loaded!" Inexplicable faith triumphs over careless logic. They don't explain how Jonah got in the "whale". They just punish the arrogant teacher by symbolically putting him in their hell.

The funniest jokes are the ones that don't quite make sense.

It is, but not in a good way. Mind you, Little Girl 1, Teacher 0!

Illogical. It tries to show that the little girl is smart because she is christian and the teacher is dumb because she doesn't know the story of Jonah. While funny to kids, it teaches them intolerance to those that do not believe as they do. It is also horrible for a child to disrespect a teacher so. Does religion generally teach to bite the hand that feeds it?

OK... I found that slightly amusing. But not really. I've found better.

I guess I'll go to hell, and if I see Jonah there, I'll ask him.
