Have any of you on here been effected by a suicide close to you? Did you ever feel that you were almost ashamed and wanted to hide the true cause of death? How many times did you hear "Why did they do it?" Suicides mostly occur due to a chemical imbalance in the brain. Help usually works 80 % of the time, IF they get help. Somehow though we need to make this more comfortable for ones to step forward to get help.
I think that we as a society have always held Suicide as a tabboo & stigma topic. I think that if we as adults are unable to talk to our kids about this or be open with it, how can we expect them to feel comfortable in coming to us with there thoughts?
Between the ages of 15 - 24 Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death. This is TO HIGH!
I am going to be putting together a walk for Suicide Awareness with all proceeds going towards educating the public of this growing problem.
What are some of your ideas of how we can lower the Suicide rate?

I'm glad I posted this. To "meathorse & Th last don", it shows in there posts the lack of knowledge there is out there on suicide. People don't kill themselves because they lost there job, or gf/bf dumped them, or they are having money issues.
9 out of 10 times IT is a chemical imbalance. One's life can be "perfect" in a sense and yet if you are off balanced then in your head life is different than what others see of your life.
Please any of you, read up on it sometime if you are able to. It is definately worth your time in understanding a bit more.
By the way "Suicide Survivor" means you survived the aftermath of a loved one commiting suicide. It doesn't mean "suicide attempt/failed".
Thanks for reading my post and adding anything you can. As well as the encouragement on what I am hoping to do along with others willing/able to put some time into this worthy cause (IMO).

Well first of all, there has to be education on why there was a suicide attempt. There are many reasons for suicide attempts other than just depression. For example, I am bipolar. I am depressed most of the time and manic the other part of the time. I have attempted suicide 6 times. This was due to my medicines not being correctly monitored and I was chemically off balance. In order to make sure this doesn't happen.. I have to stay in therapy every week or bi-weekly depending on my state of depression or mania. BiPolar is just one of the many psychological imbalances that can cause you to attempt suicide.
If you are going to lower the suicide rate, you must educate the community on what causes the attempt in the first place. Once they see that it's not about being "crazy" they will be more likely to help you in your battle against suicide.
I think your idea of Suicide Awareness is wonderful and I would love to stay in the loop!

Really, there is a point where you just can't 100% prevent a person from commiting suicide. So early detection is probably the best way to go. With all the children and teens who are suffering from depression of varying degrees, why can't we have mandatory screenings at schools or something? These kids aren't going to talk to someone about their pain most of the time, so people are going to have to ask questions and let kids know that dealing with emotional issues up front is important. It would have made such a difference if I was given that opportunity!

Lithuania got here interior the decision 3 spot and is by a ways usually Roman Catholic. Kazakhstan got here next with Islam because the religion of about 3 quarters of the inhabitants, and Christianity the religion of numerous the the relax.

1. Accept people for who they are.
2. Don't make fun of people.
3. Don't bully people. If you're getting bullied , go to http://www.jodeeblanco.com/
4. Don't make them feel worthless, by loudly insulting, or teasing them.
5. Don't ignore them just because they are so-called "different." This comment is directed towards school-age kids who decide that they'd ignore their fellow peers or do anything for popularity. If you have one of those types of friends, you either dump them, or try to change them. Otherwise, they aren't worth your time.
6. Be friendly to everyone.
7. Make people who suffer from depression get help immediately.
8. Be a good friend. Help your friends through hardships, and make sure that they know they can count on you for anything.
9. Generally, follow your morals, and be the best person you can ever be.
My dad's old friend suicided 8 years ago (by jumping off a cliff) because of something wrong going on at work. If he ever wanted to hurt his family, he thought wrong, because as far as I'm concerned, his family is pretty well and happy (his wife remarried and I believe had a kid with her second husband). If you're planning on suiciding and reading this, I beg you on my knees and from the bottom of my heart NOT to. It hurts your family, your friends, everyone in the world that you know, and your problems won't go away.

let me first start up by saying i am truly sorry for you're loss.that being said i too have survived suicide my uncle committed suicide,i was really young but the after shock of that still vibrates through my family today,no one is speaking it was like two tragedies in one.no one agrees on the why he did it part,i think life just got too heavy of a burden for him and he buckled under the pressure of taking care of his difficult mother who had cancer.
i think that the most important thing that parents can do for their teens is to not to sweat the small stuff like weird hair colours, choice of music, you know things like that in the grand scheme of things are meaningless and if your freaking out at you're kids for tiny little things they will never ever confide in you about the big stuff like drugs, sex ,alchol ,cigarettes ,bullying ,sexual orientation, all these things are so confusing and their brains are just not wired for the consequences of all those things they just aren't equipped with those kind of problem solving skills they need a level headed adult to guide them.i applaud you're efforts and wish you the very best of luck but since this issue is not directly related to Brittany's bald head or the paternity of Anna Nicole's baby i hope your message doesn't fall on deaf ears i hope not

I think that if suicide weren't such a taboo word, more ppl would seek help. Like in our school, if u even jokingly say ur gonna kill urself, they force u 2 c a psychiatrist. If it was encouraged 2 seek help, then I think more ppl would get help. Also, ppl under the influence of alcohol r more likely 2 commit suicide, so there should b more alcohol awareness in schools and even in adults.
Good luck w/ ur cause- it's a good one.

Macaw_Lo, I too would like to thank you for your efforts to educate the people of our communities. I lost a dear friend 4 years ago to suicide. Awareness, regarding the signs associated with suicide is a key factor in protecting lives. Prevention starts at home, and should be Incorporated into our schools, places of worship, hospitals, our workplace, and any place or group that can be reached. we need to watch for changes in" any ones" behavior, not only our children's. If someone is retreating into themselves, starts wanting to be alone, they lose interest in school, friends, activities that they usually love. Look for weight loss, restlessness, any type of behavior that is out of character for that individual. Do not be afraid to intervene for fear of them getting angry with you, it might just save their life. I hope that you achieve success in your commendable, charitable effort. I am an advocate for victims of Domestic Violence, so I understand your desire to help those who feel suicide is the only way out. God Bless You, and please keep us posted.

that which you can confront you can handle. the chemical imbalance thing is a farce. the being is trying to avoid something whether it is present time or past. drugs are no solution as those are a slow suicide thus rendering the person less able in life. the solution is to help the person increase their confront and make them more able to handle life.

If we were to execute all suicide canditates, the suicide rate would tend towards zero. You will never find a more effective way. Ever! And how can you be a suicide survivor? You'd be dead. I'll bet you are a suicide attempt survivor.

One of the most frequent causes of suicide amongst teens is the difficulty they face coming out as gay or lesbian. It is not because they are gay, but because of the reaction of society and especially their peers.
Education about gay and lesbian issues in the classroom, and a zero tolerance for hatred based on sexual orientation would be a huge help in preventing these suicides.
