Only if you want to. You can buy tuna packed in water and just drain the water. Most people prefer the taste of the oil packed tuna. That may be why she rinses it off. Should it be water packed tuna then she is just being overly cautious and maybe trying to rid it of any extra preservatives it could be packed in.

To each their own. I dont rinse and have never heard of anyone doing it. water packed has less calories but the tuna packed in oil has a better taste. I just drain the water/oil

No, just queeze the water out if it is Tuna in water. And if it is Tuna in oil, let the oil drain out of the can. If you rinse the tuna, all flavor goes away.

I've never rinsed a can of tuna. My mom and grandma and husband don't either. In fact, I've never heard of such a thing. I just open the lid and use it to squish the liquid out. A little extra flavor never hurt!

No, not unless you want to rinse the oil out if it's packed in oil & you're on a diet or something. Not generally done otherwise. People generally strain any excess water or oil out of the can so that you only get the fish though, as you probably already know.

I don't rinse the tuna but I only buy tuna packed in water. I would probably rinse it if it was packed in oil.

I don't bother if it's packed in water. I only use packed in oil type if using it in a salad where I want the oils to mingle with other flavors...so I guess my answer is no.

Nope, why would I do that? I dont understand why people wash chickens either, what sort of germ can be washed away yet can withstand an hour roasting? People are strange.
