It's basically a matter of socialization. If the owner exposed the puppy to lots of people and experiences growing up and those experiences were positive, it is less likely to dislike strangers. Also some breeds, such as golden retrievers are very people-oriented and tend to like most people, strangers or not.

It usually depends on how well the dog was socialized when it was a puppy. A puppy who goes out and meets new people and dogs everyday is going to be more friendly with strangers than a puppy who is cooped up all day. A puppy who doesn't have a lot of socialization is probably going to be unsure about strangers. And sometimes it has to do with their breed. Some breeds, like german shepherds, bullmastiffs, and rottweilers are gaurd dogs, and it is instinct to be weary of strangers and protect the family. But really it mostly depends on the amount of socialization they get.

I think animals can sense things in people that other humans can't. My dogs are well socialized and very people friendly so when they meet a person that they growl at or show their teeth to I take the hint and steer clear of that person. For instance once a neighbor came up to the fence to talk to my husband my dogs were all over the fence barking and snarling. Every time from then on when he walked by my dogs would hit the fence like the wanted to kill him. He was later arrested and convicted of child molestation.

Just the same reason as why humans like some strangers more than others.

there could be some basic element you probably did not be conscious, all the "undesirable" adult adult males wore hats, had beards, have been TALL etc. Or specifically situations the guy beverages, takes meds, isn't advantageous. Drunks and druggies scent undesirable to canines. Or the canine is in basic terms social in some circumstances, in basic terms in the domicile and not on the line. My Dobe is rather social, he is going to PetsMart, canine shows, obed training, on walks, has his TT and CGC and if he EVER did not choose to declare hi to a individual i might run in the different direction. He has been around wheelchairs, infants, infants, childrens, bearded adult adult males, horses, gun ranges, rubbish autos and everywhere i ought to think of off so not something and no one has ever scared him. yet while some individual did i might def e book us outta there..

Some breeds are cautious around strangers, due to their protective natures.

i think dogs are fantastic judges of character and if my dogs did not like a stranger i would probably mistrust them myself.

I personally think that dogs are a great judge of character......from personal experience I can say that dogs will pick out the people that they feel are a possible threat to their territory and their family. Also dogs can often sense when someone is on drugs even if they do not have them on their person........when people who have done drugs sweat.......dogs can smell it in their pores........dogs have a great sense of smell........also they can sense fear and if you stare at them directly in the eyes its like you are challenging them......dogs dont like that.

Because dogs seem to have a sense of people as to whether they can trust them.
