I've noticed this for awhile. And it happened again recently. Whenever I ask a certain group a question there is always at least one or two here and there who don't answer the question with an actual useful answer. Why do they do this. It's trolling and it's annoying. I mean are some people that desperate for points? The points are meaningless.

2 points!!!

Actually, they don't know the answer, so they try to make it seem like any attempt at an answer would be so far over your head that its not worth even trying. But what do you expect? They're probably some 17yo Xtian H.S. know-it-all who has had his/her own questions about religion answered by teachers, clergy, and parents in the same vague and re-directing way for years .

I know what you mean, though from the other end of the spectrum. I answer and I wonder if they even get what I was trying to say.

Points are meaningless indeed and I usually do not answer if there is already good answers or they asked a certain group for an answer.

I looked at your previous question and I like Convictionsist's answer and while glib I think Dino also spoke well. For myself Theism does not necessarily make sense, but Christianity does. Logic covers most of it and the illogical parts are backed up by actions and the truth that is revealed in my mind when I read the Bible.

This is totally nothing to do with your question. The other day when you said you were leaving, I thought you meant for good. I'm glad you're back again. Take care.

I have taken a position that if a question is explicitly targeting "atheists", "non-believers" or something similar, that I will not answer (but may read for my own edification) the question since I obviously do not fit these labels.

Likewise, if a question is labeled "believers", "theists", “Muslims”, “Jehovah’s Witnesses”, etc., it would be polite if persons not fitting the question’s label would not respond. Persons that do so seem to me to be very desperate for attention or the paltry two points. I also ignore questions that obviously violate the new community guidelines posted at http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines.php, and especially those that are vulgar, hate-mongering, vapid preaching, or are just chatty.

So it seems to me, outside of responding to questions that fit one’s identity, only if a question is non-specific as to some target population should responses be expected from “any and all” persons.

We all learned this behavior in kindergarten but seem to have forgotten how to play nice with one another. We were taught to not speak unless spoken to, answer the question asked, and be polite. Yet, even when a question is marked unequivocally for, say, “Pro-Choice Women”, you will find males posting answers. Apparently some have never learned, as George Elliot noted, "Blessed is the person who, having nothing to say, abstains from giving us worthy evidence of the fact."

Yet why is it that when some are older they feel they can reject all semblances of politeness hiding behind anonymity, or shallow and strained arguments for free speech, “I’m just having fun”, etc? In truth, these are not really the salient issues, but only excuses for bad behavior.

What enables these forums? The answer should be clear--it is the question posed. The questioner is the driving force in these forums and should be able to designate a specific population for the responses they are seeking. For if there are no questions, there is no reason for a Q&A type of forum. Thus, the focus for any of my responses is on what the asker may think of my answer. If the asker doesn’t like my answer I usually hear about it and learn from them. Nevertheless, I try to write cogent responses in hopes they are useful to others who may take the time to read them.

I create my answers from an academic theologian’s perspective, as this is my “day job”. Yes, my answers are often wordy; to honor the questioner with enough details to help them learn more. I believe that what a person sets into writing is a greater act of consciousness than what a person speaks from their mouths. So, when a person writes some of the vitriol that we see in this Forum, especially from self-professed believers, this person is demonstrating the real nature of the state of their faith to others. In short, some may know the Word of the Lord, but they demonstrate by their actions that they do not know the Lord of the Word.

If we respect the sincere questioner’s desires for specificity (if any), adhere to the community guidelines, and remember what we learned when we were six years old, spending time in this forum will be worth our precious time.

I'm guilty of throwing out sarcastic remarks to some questions, so I really can't be upset with other people doing it. It's not for the points, but for the sheer amusement. I do understand what you mean about wasting time targeting a group. You are one of the only people that ever has any kind of answer when I ask questions about Jainism.

I am of the opinion that very few people really want an answer to their questions posted in R&S. They ask questions to make statements or try to prove others wrong. Most of the questions have been asked over and over again and others can be answered with a few searches. Many of the answers are similar.

I wish that just once someone would ask a dumb question and no one would answer.

I find that in most emails I send to people....Unless it is business when the points are answered point by point..but generally people don't care about the questions; they are too egocentric to care and more than likely know nothing anyway so pretend to project knowledge with nonsense. And then maybe they do want "jerk" points.

Well, if you would trust God and repent, you would know.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that none should perish..."

It's never too late. Repent of your sinful ways, and realize that even though you don't believe it, God is real, and you will stand before Him one day! And go to hell! Because you're a filthy sinner!

And I noticed one of the answers to that other question was a Pascal's Wager...

each so often, its very properly to no longer be ok. existence is like that. no longer being on top of problems with your emotions is all with regards to the circle, i wish i ought to assist you to recognize the answer to why we experience the way we do. yet in all honesty, i cant. Crying is letting out emotion and rigidity and while you're preserving all of it in, each so often the superb component is to cry. anybody needs administration of their emotions and atleast tries, yet fails.
