This is the first time that I have noticed it. Personally- I thought it was my brother who came into my room and turned my computer off. But it wasn't. I had it on before i left and I was only gone for about an hour. I have in the past left it on for several hours, but never over night. Could this be the cause of it? Should i be concerened? What does this mean? Can I fix or have this fixed in any way? Any help from someone who knows what they are talking about would be great!

could be overheating, bad hard drive, a short, or bad ram. you can fix all of those. get a better fans or a better case, or a new hard drive, find the short..., get new ram. if you really don't know much about computers find a friend who does or as a last resort take it to a computer person...(they over price things)

good luck.

Assuming that it is not something like the computer going into standby or hibernate (check the power settings in control panel)...

the next 2 most likely reasons are that the power supply inside the computer has failed or the computer is overheating

in either case the symptoms would be that the computer turns off abruptly after some use. Another symptom might be that a processing intensive program like BOINC triggers the shutdown.
motherboard manufacturers often have utilities that will display the temperature, fan speeds or power supply voltages
there are a few universal temp monitors as well

unlikely to be a hard drive (you should hear a kind of death rattle if this is the problem) less likely to be RAM - unless you are trying to overclock it and have exceeded the speed of the RAM (and its temperature)

Check your power settings in the control panel - see if anything has a value other then "never"

It may have also been set to stand-by - hammer the keyboard for a moment.

If not, check your PSU and if you can, internal temperatures. The CPU may be overheating and causing a cut out

It has gone into "sleep" mode or "hibernate" mode to save power. Nothing to be concerned about. Just tap the power button once to wake it up. I have a server that has been on continually for the last five years. You don't have to worry about that.

it's probably just set up to hibernate if you want to stop it doing that open the control panel double click on power options click the hibernate tab remove the tick out of the box then click apply now it shouldn't shut down when you leave it

One of mine had a virus like that.
run your virus program in safe mode to fix your computer
I think you need to hold down F5 while its booting up. I'm not sure. you might ask how to start your computer in safe mode to be sure.
