is there any way to be able to press the button and the picture be taken moments after the button is flashed?

Perhaps you meant how to shorten the "lag time"? - learn to pre-focus the camera by pressing down the shutter button half-way - see this article re: lag time.

Or maybe you meant how to set the self timer mode? The self timer is under the Drive Mode Menu and can be set for 2 or 10 second delay - http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/a530_pg3.html
