At my school, you need to get teacher initials for recommendation to any AP class, when I asked my english teacher which AP class I should take, she said american lit(regular english). English has always been my best subject and I really want to take AP. Should I take the english AP exam and if I pass do the class anyways ?

At the level of education you are at now, do whatever will most please those who can help you get into a good college, after you get into that good college, then you will be free to take any class you want. That is when you can base your decisions on what you will "enjoy" etc...Just for now take all the AP courses you can and make every decision you make for the next 2 years based upon your entrance into college. Take it from someone who squandered some of his potential in high school, thinking there was plenty of time....believe me, every decision you make now will affect what opportunities are open to you for the rest of your life. Put girls, fun, friends, etc....way down on the priority scale until after high school. The entire world will be at your feet if you will heed my advice. Now is not the time to persue happiness, now is the time to work and keep good counsel with adults you trust that have your best interest at heart. I know this is more than yo asked for, but just trying to help.
