Caravaggio is a Baroque artist. His paintings frequently are tenebristic (they have very dramatic lighting - it goes from extreme light to extreme dark) and linear. He is often applauded for his realistic style - his paintings often look almost like a snapshot.

this is so weird, tonight for some reason I felt the need to look up carravaggio on google images and now i find this question - strange. I don't know a lot about art, only what moves me, but carravaggio - man his paintings are just amazing. I would stand in a snowstorm to look at them. Most of them are christian but you don't have to be a christian to appreciate their beauty. My favourite is 'The Taking Of Christ' look at the light bouncing off the armour of the soldiers, its almost as if a flash photograph had been taken of the scene. Enjoy them......
