You formed a habit to rid of your anxiety. Now you have two ways to get rid of the habit. First: get rid of the anxiety or Second: get rid of the habit. Or do both. You can get rid of the anxiety by asking " what's the worst that can happen to me?" and accept it. For example, you are worried about the results of an exam you took. You may fail, so what? You can always try again as long as you are alive, right. So why worry!. Let's say that you worry that somebody might rob you or beat you up. The worst that can happen is you lose your money or get bruised or injured. Accept it as possible and then say " so what! I can earn my money again as long as I am still alive. Or I can always get my injuries treated and cured as long as I am alive. If I die, that's ok too because every body will die some day. I will and can do the best to get back to normal again.". Do you get the idea of how you take yourself out of the anxiety by accepting the consequences ahead of time and getting ready to take charge! Now to prevent your impulse to pull your skin off your feet, keep them always covered with socks and shoes until you get rid of the impulse. When your feet is not readily available, think of something else for a change, like chewing gum, or kissing something or a person, or going out and jogging or running, etc. That way you divert your attention from your feet and do something else. After doing it several times, you will find that your impulse to go for your feet will become week or even vanish, even when you are barefooted. Instead you can do something else more productive. Good Luck.

Sean;
It may feel good to pick but it can also be dangerous, especially if you were to pull to the point of bringing your feet to bleed.
The best way to do it is to soak your feet in water (as warm as you can!)with a tbsp. of vinegar or Epsom or sea salt in the water (foot-bath) for a good 5 minutes at least and then scrape off the dead skin or file it off with a "pumice stone" or anything but a razor of any kind and then apply a clear liquid 'vitamin E' or a good, safe cream, put a pair of cotton socks on for the rest of the night and watch the beautiful, comfortable feet that will be yours the next day. You'll be so pleased that you won't even miss the dead skin picking as the habit will surely be replaced by the taking care of these very important feet of yours. Remember that they have the job of carrying your whole body and that if they aren't happy, it will make it harder for the rest of your body to feel as good as it could.

I go running a lot so have areas of dry skin which I sit and pick off whilst watching the telly. I throw the bits behind the couch!
If you have a veruca and use the liquid nitrogen stuff then that is even better for picking at.

Dead skin does accumulate on the bottom of the feet but I go to a foot care specialist to take care of that problem if it should need addressing. You should do the same.

Dude, get a better past time! that is yukki man. That sort of activity should be relegated to under the shower because after all you should take care of your feet and remove all that dead skin before it piles up like a disgusting crust.

Not my cup of tea.....but it is odd how we do things that seem odd to others but relax us and become habit forming.....
There are worse things that you can do and providing you keep it to yourself [stick it on a national website?!] then you'll be fine!
