Sorry my friend. But not all chruches are as you make out! There has been about 20 cases of that sort of thing happening over the last 40 years. Your child is more likley to be molested by a relative than sombody else, and that is a Known Fact.

If you are that naive to think that ONLY the catholic church has this problem then do not be surprised when it happens in your own church or religion. This problem is EVERYWHERE. Open your eyes for a few minutes before throwing garbage or it may land back at your feet. I'm not catholic but intelligent enough to know that ALL walks of life have this problem. Your pastor or whatever just hasnt been caught yet!!!

First of all I am not a Catholic but I find this question to be highly insulting to not only decent priests but to those parents of that faith that take their kids to Church. What kind of person are you to judge All priests because some of them disgraced the name of Christ. That is about as stupid as saying,"gee ladies why do you continue to date men when some have abused woman." Be sensible and stop judging all people because of a few. Oh my God, I just read another answer and she called you Julia. no wonder this question was asked, if I knew it was you I wouldn't even have bothered to response.

Oh don't be daft Julia, you're putting your children in danger by just letting them to walk to school. You were molested as a child weren't you? All this hatred towards christians, this is the only reason I can think of.

oh come on don't be silly now..i'm agnostic but i live in a mainly roman catholic country. People go to church en masse and take their kids there and that's that, and no kids are left alone with priests. I mean, not ALL priests are paedophiles! There is only a small portion of them that actually are, but it is that small portion that most people see, and then they forget that most priests do their vocational work and try to be good to people.
And it is good to remember that one does not have to be a catholic priest to be a paedophile.

I'm a lifelong Catholic. I served as an altar boy, went to Catholic school, and spent tons of time with the priests. Guess what happened to me?
Nothing.
Not a blessed thing.
At least in my area, the bulk of the people going up for molestation are sports coaches for schools and youth sports teams, not priests.

You get bad people in all walks of life. It just stands out more when it is someone in a position of trust. Basically don't leave your kids alone with anyone unless you are sure they are going to be safe. Don't assume trust. And teach your kids to keep away if they are in any doubt and to talk to you if they have any concerns. They are likely to be safer left with a priest than hanging around outside chip shops in the dark.

Not all priests are bad. Why do you put yourself in danger when you go drive on the interstate, go to public places where you could be robbed, go swimming?
I'm sure priests aren't going to call up young children in front of their parents and molest them on the altar and say its an offering to God.

I'm an atheist, but I don't like to see untruthful points made about Catholicism (or any philosophy).
If you take your kids to church, you are going to be sitting next to them, so they are not in any real danger are they ?
If you leave them alone with a perverted paedophile priest (or layman), of course they will be in danger, but a church service doesn't really offer that opportunity.
