My father recently moved in with us and he did not get a 1099 for his pension from B F Goodrich. I have tried to search for the website and cannot find it. There does not appear to be a link from the BF site for the pensions.
When I call them they say that they need to talk to him. He is 82 and cannot hear or really understand what they are saying. He does have a user ID and password, but we cannot remember the website.
Is there anything that we can do about getting the 1099? We cannot do his taxes without it.

Call them back and ask for their mailing address. Then mail in your request over his signature. Or ask them for the URL for the website.

Getting a Power of Attorney would be a real good idea. Another suggestion is to have him on an extension when you talk to the company - as long as he will just give them permission to talk to you, they most likely will.

One more thought - they won't give you the numbers from the 1099, but might give you the website to sign into to get them, since you have the ID and password.

Good luck.

Get him to sign a Power-of-Attorney in favor of you and have it include a provision that you can handle financial matters on his behalf (this is probably a good idea in general as his health may decline as he ages). BF Goodrich should then be able to disclose the 1099R info to you once they have a copy of the POA.

If it is for a 2005 tax return, you can have him sign a Form 8821 (disclosure only) or 2848 (IRS POA) and get the data from IRS directly. I do not think 2006 data is available yet from IRS.

Turn in a change of address for your guy, if it is not to late he will get his mail.
