The authorized user is basically getting a free ride. The cc will show up on both people's credit report. In case of default, the authorized user is not responsible for the payments - it would fall on the main card holder. Every cc is different, but for the most part, that is usually the way it goes.

Every card, as well as every bank account, comes with a booklet called "Terms and Conditions". The purpose of that booklet is to spell out the exact obligations of EVERYONE related to the account. If you don't have your copy, ask for a new one.
