You could fly choppers in the army as a warrant officer but you cant just enlist and go to flight school. However their are some great enlisted aviation jobs in the airforce: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airforceenlistedjobs/a/afjobs.htm

No, and yes. No, it's not possible to be a pilot in the military without being an officer, and yes it's possible to go from the enlisted ranks to the officer ranks.

In the US Military of today... NO.

The US Army does have Warrant Officers for flying helicopters, but in all other branches you must be a Commissioned Officer prior to starting flight school.

In the years prior to, and during, World War II, the Navy and Marines had enlisted pilots. And during Korea most helicopter pilots were enlisted.

You CAN serve as aircrew (enlisted) in a number of aircraft... I was a qualified crewman in the SH-60B Seahawk, the C-12 Huron, and S-3B Viking

this relies upon on what you're keen to fly. in the army as an example you are able to exchange right into a helicopter pilot as a warrant officer. I even have additionally well-known enlisted human beings in the Air tension that have flown C-130s. while you're eager to alter right into a fighter pilot although you may desire to alter into an officer.

You have to be an officer, yes, and you can go from enlisted to officer, but by then you're usually too old to be a pilot. At least in the AF.
