ok, anyone who has had contact with your card or card number can steal it- waiters, people at stores, people who could have stolen a bill or statement, any place you could of used your card. Now, did they steal the card or do they just know the card numbers? If they stole the card, you know that you physically lost it, right. If it was the numbers, crooks can actually make "clones" of your card with a different name. (Not to scare you, but for example- you used your card at a restaurant, the waiter makes note of the number on the front and the back, they sell it for $20 to crook A. Crook A sells it for $30 to Crook B. Crook B sells it for $40 to Crook C. Crook C has the machine to make a card with your numbers on it and sell it for $500 to Crook D. Crook D goes on a shopping spree.) So long as you file a police report and an affidavit of forgery with your bank letting then know that someone stole your card or number, you can get the money that was stolen. unfortunately, it may not be possible to get the crooks, but at least you have your money. You've offically become a victim of identity theft. go to freecreditreport.com and pull your credit just to make sure there is nothing else out there that doesn't belong to you. good luck

One trick is to place a small device on the card slot on an atm and a small wireless camera pointing toward the keypad. The device records the magstripe data from the card and the camera captures the pin number.

In one extreme case, some crooks obtained an atm. they put it near a real atm and put an out or order sign on the real atm with instructions to use the "temporary atm". The rigged atm would record the Magstripe data and the pin number, flash up an error "Unable to process request" to make the person think the temporary atm wasn't working either.

An old method eas to tap the phone line for the atm, and record the transaction data directly. The newer atms use encryprion to keep that from working.

It is possible for them to get caught. Usually they make a "clone" card and the security camera at the atm where they use the card will get a good picture for the police.

There a dozens of ways to steal your information, and they can be caught. They can get the numbers from bills you throw away, from other sites online, lots of ways.

Call your credit card company and tell them your information was stolen and is being used, asked them to cancel the card and send you the information on where it was last used. You can get another card, but if you don't cancel this one they'll keep spending.

File an identity theft report with your credit card company, and the police report.

Best luck.

Veronica, They got mine too. I wonder if yahoo has anything to do with it. I filed a police report but they told me it was unlikely they would be caught.
