Not neccessarily. Some cats with short hair have dry skin that causes them to shed more, among other things. I had one long haired kitty that hardly shed at all, but the shorthair would leave huge clumps of fur wherever he was sitting! Mostly just depends on the cat. If you have a long-haired kitten - start bathing him while he's young - he'll get used to it, and not only will it cut down on his shedding, but on allergens as well.

This depends more on the skin type of the cat than the hair length.

I have never known a cat not to shed, especially during dry and hot weather.

All catz shed. You only notice more hair with the long-haired because it is easier to see. Long haired shed more when the weather warms depending on the climate they are living in.

i have to beautiful semi to long haired kittens 9 months but they won't develop their full coats until 3-4 years old. i don't find much moulted hair from them but they're brushed daily and love it. my sister has two short haired cats and she finds cat hair every where. i think they moult the same just one might be more noticeable than the other. try brushing regularly to remove moulted hair.

Not necessarily - some do, some don't - but, with those long hairs, you sure do notice it more.
