This past weekend I went away with someone I am becoming more friendly with. She waited too long and was not able to get a room at the place I was staying. She ended up sleeping on the floor of my very small hotel room at the Y. However, she did not offer to contribute to the room or even make a small gesture to say thanks, ie buy me a cup of coffee. I am not really desperate for the $$$ but I feel like I was taken advantage of. Should I ask for the $$ or just let it go? Thanks...

I agree she should have helped with some of the expenses if she didn't pay for the room. She is an adult (I'm assuming) so she should know these things, but I would let this one go and agree that in the future all expenses will be split evenly on trips. Plan ahead who will pay for what. This is important because friendships are too often ruined over money and sometimes friends are worse than strangers for paying you back. I know this from experience.

If you're going to continue being friends with this girl, I'd say absolutely! Start as you mean to go on. If you allow her to think from the get go that you're happy to pay for her, chances are it won't be the last time. Address the issue head on, making sure to let her know you're not bringing it up to embarrass her, but that you feel she should contribute some $$$ towards the room you shared. Hotels aren't cheap. Her reaction should let you know it this is someone worth building a friendship with. If she recognizes her faux pas and offers some cash, she's a keeper. If she freaks out and gets offended, you just dodged a bullet, my friend.

Let it go this time, but next time instead of waiting for her to book her own room offer to split the cost of a nicer motel or hotel room and get the money up front for her share.

I would just let it go. After it all it wasn't a place that charged you more for her being there, was it?

She was not very polite not to thank you or make some other gesture to repay you for your kindness and inconvenience.

I would let it go, there is no need to create conflict if you don't need the money...but keep this in mind when you make future plans to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again.

Yes, your friend should have helped you in one way or another. Or at least showed gratitude for letting her sleep in your room.

if u dont need the $, dont even bring it up cuz that will just make bad feelings. but just keep it in mind so u know how she is. But also even tho its a lame excuse for not even saying thanks, she might have just been stressed and it slipped her mind. also i dont know the situation but maybe she was mad at you for .. i dont know not booking her a room or something. ...

Let it go. But if she ever tries that again tell her that she can't go.
