Just because we don't believe in any gods does not mean we don't care about religion. Religions affect us as much as anybody else. If you look at the world, today, you'll see many of religion's negative affects on the world.
Also, don't assume that atheists know nothing about religion. Since most people came from religious families, many athiests came from them, too. And breaking childhood indoctrination requires a lot of study and insight. Even if an atheist didn't grow up in a religious family, they have grown up in a world filled by people who believe in religious superstition.
Because of religion's affect on the world, it is in our interests to be familiar with religion and keep abreast of what religious people are promoting.

A lot of atheists, or deists for that matter, actually know more about the Bible and religion than most Christians.
If more Christians actually READ the WHOLE Bible, they would probably be atheist or deist also.
There's just no way a person can read and study the Bible without lots of questions, some disgust, some disillusion, and some repulsion about all the killing, beating, raping, and pillaging done by God or in His name.
A deist believes in a God, but not in religion. And the God of a deist person does not order babies to be slaughtered, girls to be raped, men to be circumcised twice, or any of those other nasty things found in the Bible.
Atheists and deists are trying to save Christians from religion just like Christians are trying to gather souls for their murderous, jealous God.

In fact many atheists know more than enough - that is what makes them atheist - they have taken the time to open their minds to read and research and are therefore in the best position to answer questions.
You ask your question as if you believe an atheist or agnostic has never opened a bible let alone read it from cover to cover - talk about your negative responses. I'd venture to say that atheists know more about religion than the main stream religious folks.
Just making a point ...

I am very very interested in religion!!! And I grew up baptist, married catholic and have taken religion classes in college. I have also read the bible end to end countless times. I also have read Sam Harris' and Richard Dawkins on the subject. Where do you get your information which is so obviously incorrect?
Religion interests me because it is the number one instigator of wars on this planet. Something that is quite different from the intended result of religion.

Everyone is born knowing God.....regardless of the choices we make in our lives it is a natural involuntary response for a human being to gravitate toward God. That "empty" spot a lot of people have inside can only be filled by God. Go ahead, make all your jokes, ridicule, persecute, spit in His face.....He still loves you just the same....

I would like to see more believers answering questions myself. I would like to see more kindness as well. I try to keep on going on worshiping my God and not let the mean and negative remarks bother me. "God always causes me to triumph in Christ Jesus," 1 Corinthians 2:14, I possess victory over every adverse force.

You are mistaken in your view of us. I care very much about religion as it has a great bearing on the society I live in. I also know quite a bit about it, much more than many of the religious people I've met.

atheist are natually curious, more curious than theist, they like to explore questions, if they never questioned religion in the beginning, they would never be atheist... so if you want to be curious about life, open and honest about human situation, become an atheist, remember, the truth set you free
