I am attempting to make a lined work document that will be filled in and would like to have horizntal lines similar to a lined paper tablet. If the space key woould underline, that would be perfect, but it doesn't, so any other suggestions?

Try creating a TABLE, one cell wide. Each line of text is a new line in the table.

Then format the table, with Borders, to put lines between each row of text.

With your MS Word open, go to View, Toolbars, Drawing, a new table will prop out, you can see auto shapes and other icons representing all other lines and shapes. For lines, the second icon will suffice. You may change the color, the size, and the width of it with the other icons.

The second option is to the formatting table, click on underline, and then tab after that.
