Help, I asked the same question yesterday and made an effort to put all my stuff away. I leave my sandals by the front door, because I'm home cooking in the kitchen. I come back and find that my dog is eating my sandal. Why does he destroy my stuff all the time and not my husband's. Not that I want him to destroy anything in the house, but he is always attacking my stuff. I took him out for a 2 mile walk yesterday and 1/2 mile today. Gave him chew toys and a bone and called him a good boy only to come back and find him destroying my stuff. Help?

If he is young its a phase like terrible twos. But you know when you get a purebred there is a lot of availible information to allow youto do your due diligence. So its a guardian problem. As a Puppy they like most puppys are very active and crave attention, they tend to be overcorrected so a sharp scoldong is good enough as they are very intuitive it is recommended that they be introduced to more than a hundred people before four or five months old, I think they are called rat terriers for a reason As you know those feeder rats they have at the pet store for snakes dont bite are hand tamed and could be a fun inexpensive toy for your rat terrier, I know its sounds a little cruel for the rat but I used to buy mice for my cats and they would have an indescribably fun time chase the mouse around till it got tired never drawing blood,...But just an idea good lluck sounds like more attentioin and keep him leashed up near yu when you are having to take your attention off him for now

First of all how old is your rat terrier? I have 2 of them and we had one of them since he was a little puppy. They do go through that stage when there little could be teething or just to have your attention they are a type of dog that loves to be around people. My 15yr still chews up things when left alone he will chew up anything paper left out or toilet paper or Kleenex's or anything like that. He hates being crated when we leave we even got him a nice mat to go in his crate only to come home one night and find it all chewed to shreds. Some dogs do that I'm sure with a little time and patience you should be able to get him to stop.

He's an energetic dog and needs much more attention than he's getting. Taking a dog on a walk really isn't giving them attention. Play fetch and do things that make him run. Go to a dog park if you can. Reward good behavior with treats. For bad behavior, be stern and tell him No! Give him a little swat on the butt if you catch him in the act.

Your dog may just be teething. Talk with a dog trianer and they can give you some advice. That or give you a fee and do the training themselves. Good luck.

he may be striving for ur attention, play with him, spend time with him show him ur love and DON'T give him chew toys reswmbling household items, shoes etc. then he might mistake them for a toy!
