You should always have your hands wrapped when hitting bags. Learning how to wrap your hands properly is very important for hand and wrist injury prevention.
The human hand has at least 27 bones: the carpus or wrist account for 8; the metacarpus or palm contains 5; the remaining 14 are digital bones. Once you've sustained a hand or wrist injury you can no longer train effectively as punching to maximum potential is no long achievable until you are fully healed. Long story short, protect yourself at all times. This mean using the proper equipment to prevent or minimize injury.

Are you talking about those everlast gloves that go halfway up the fingers? They have the padding right on the striking surface of your fist... If thats what you mean, those are the ones I use to hit my heavy bag and I dont wrap my hands. I hit pretty hard and I'm a big guy (about 200 lbs, 6'1") and they are enough protection for me. The only thing is sometimes I bust open the skin on my 2nd knuckles and they bleed but its no big deal. I'd say try it, you are going to feel it if it is going to be a problem.

You should always have your hands wrapped, especially when hitting the heavy bag. It protects your hands from breaks and sprains.
