I know with a BA you can become an officer. I was curious because the Admiral has a Master's, and I beleive he went to the Naval War Academy. An the USCG Academy. So I was wondering if a BA is enough. But if you try, and put your heart in it. I guess anything can happen. I want to go all the way for Captain.

with a Bachelors degree you can become an Officer in any Service Branch. DON'T let a recruiter FOOL you. Trust me they will try.

Well you need a the bachelors to enter in the OCS program or if the degree is engineering or law or a few that I can't remember you can apply direct commissioning. You will enter as O-1 Junior lieutenant. Or if you are enlisted an achieve already E-5 and have 60 college credits also can apply to OCS. But with only bachelors you need to have a SAT of 1000 ,(500 math and 500 verbal) or take the ASVAB and score 109 or more in the GT part (Math, Vocabulary, Paragraph comprehension). The age is 26 or up to 31 I believe but to be sure check on the website www.gocoastguard.com or www.uscg.mil also check this site www.coastguardocs.org. Same goes to Selected Reserve Officer program but the age is more up to 36 years. I am a YN (HR specialist) enlisted in the USCG , another thing when going to basic as enlisted you will be E-3 nothing more no matter how many 4 year degree you have when you go out the basic (8 weeks in Cape May NJ ) after that you you go to A school and become E-4 and of course its have the ups and downs as any other job but depending on rate and job. I will apply to OCS also since I have a bachelor so if you want to go full time or reserve good luck and god bless.

"So Others May Live"

That should be more than enough. If you haven't seen it, rent "The Guardian", be sure to watch the special features because it gives a little inside to the coast guard. Good luck!

"Don't ask, don't tell", should be what you are concerned about.
