I'm cosidering downloading from limewire illegallly what are the chances of actually getting caught doing this ?

Probably one in thousands if you don't allow anything to be uploaded. Why take a chance? The settlements are about $5000. Paying for Limewire means nothing. You just get a faster connection and free service. Downloading copyrighted material is illegal. Limewire has nothing to do with it. They are just the tool to do it. When you download the program it asks if you are going to download copyrighted material. If you say yes you can't get the program. Therefore everyone lies and has added another nail to the coffin when they are caught.

I've been using it for 2 years now and no problems here.Besides, since you have to pay for limewire (I.e Limewire Pro)
You really cant get in trouble.
