first of its a horrible depressing job but if it is all you have some states don't even require a high school diploma as long as you get your g.e.d. within 6 months of employment

In most States a high school education plus 3 to 6 months of training will get you certified as a Corrections Officer. I spent 23 years in Law Enforcement In Florida and have first hand knowledge of the Florida requirements.
Hope this helps.

You can be what you want. I don't know why you'd want to look over prisoners, some who are very, very verrrrrreeee dangerous. I did 8 yrs and 3 months in prison and for the likes of me, why would anyone want to work in a prison. Prison has a way of being so intensely unpredictable, and prison is dangerous and quite toxic for your emotions.

It may vary by state. It also depends on if you're going to work at a state prison, a county jail, or a privately run jail. The county jail in my city requires a GED or diploma, no criminal history, and you have to pass a drug test and physical fitness test. There's a privately run jail in this city also...they wanted a clean criminal background and the ability to work any shift.

Usually a HS graduate will do, but some college will help. You're also required to successfully pass the training. Each state is different

High school education, and complete the state correctional academy. ( IE, they call them correctional officers now, in 99 percent of the prisions, you will make most mad by calling them guards)

i wish they get some form of secure practices thinking the actual fact they had probable positioned numbers of individuals in detention center or penal complex interior the previous. lots of inmates might % to get their arms on the 'pig' who positioned them in penal complex. Throwing a police officer or shelter in detention center with out secure practices from those they in all possibility might have positioned away is thoroughly absurd and not the neatest element to do.
