The good news is it's already there! It's just hidden under a sheen of bodyfat.
If you heed nothing else, the best advice that I can give you is this: perform intense cardiovascular exercises such as running 4-5 days a week, for at least 30 minutes, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Your blood sugar is lowest in the morning, and it's easier for your body to dip into it's fat stores for energy. Trust me, your body cannot stave off the onslaught that repeated intense cardio provides, and if you can do nothing else, do this faithfully.
Second, reduce your calories. Doesn't matter how...just eat less. Less fat on your body equals less cardio that you have to do, and that's a good thing.
Third, any weightlifting that you do in an upright position will have the indirect effect of involving your midsection to stabilize. I'd recommend that you begin a total-body routine (maybe a two day a week upper body/lower body rotation) with one day in the middle for ab and lower back work. If you need any advice, try:
http://www.getanedge.com
It's a great, free web-based triathalon training program that sets up all of your weightlifting and cardio workouts for you.
(I don't work for Ford, BTW...I just like the site.)
Fourth, sleep eight hours a night. All at one time. No deviation. Period.
Fifth: Drink 128 oz of water a day, and 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, split among 5-6 meals. As far as carbohydrates, aim for no more than 2 grams per pound of bodyweight, with the majority of that consumed 1-2 hours after your weightlifting workouts.
This isn't just dogma I'm spitting out to you, it helped me shave 55 pounds off of my frame in 6 months.
Good luck!

Well, I don't know what shape your in now, that would help. Anyways, you need to cut out alot of salt, and fat in your diet. No fast food at all. You should plan your meals every day, turkey, chicken, fresh veggies, salads, tons of water. You would need to do lots of cardio every other day, like an hour minimum. Again, you didn't provide that much info, so I don't know where you are at now. You can use supplements like alpha- lipoic acid, green tea extract, L-Carnitine, etc.. make sure your health is already good before starting a strict regimen like this. Check with your doctor, too he can confirm your vitals and blood pressure etc & give you the go ahead.
