It's not actually a special part of the pig. The thing that makes it bacon is the way that it's carved and cured. It can come from pretty much anywhere on the pig.
One person above said that it was 'just fat', but actually the fat on bacon is white and quite visible. (There is fat in the meat too but also lots of protein and other things). Another person (below) said it was just all the extra bits ground up - this is mince pork or pressed ham (as opposed to ham off the bone), not bacon.
A few people said the belly and it's true that bacon can be made from pork belly meat. However, it can also come from the animal's back, rump or even legs. Back bacon, for example, comes from the pig's back (obviously) and is much leaner than belly bacon.
