Nausea, acid taste in your mouth, feeling like you have to burp all the time. Heartburn is caused by acid backing up your esophagus and eating things such as tomatoes, citrus fruit, drinking coffee and smoking will make it worse. Also, when you sleep, try to get your head up higher so you don't lay completely flat and the acid does not come up. Taking over teh counter meds such as Tagamed ir Mylanta may help, otherwise see a professional help as the constant heartburn may cause cancer of esophagus.

It feels like your stomach is burning, and sometimes your throat will start to burn because of it. That happens to me a lot if I eat a few hours before going to bed. Sometimes it can keep you awake for hours. I can tell you the best thing I've found to prevent that from happening is Pepto-Bismol tablets. You can buy the liquid, but the tablets are more effective, and they usually last longer. They are cheaper when compared to most antacids. Most of the antacids don't seem to do much of anything. Pepto-Bismol also prevents you from feeling sick at your stomach.

I think it varies with different people. My esophagus actually burns, where my husband gets acid that comes up and burns his throat.
