Leather or fake leather. You can pick up any cat fur on such firnitures with just a damp cloth. Then again, you'll have to train kitty not to scratch. Maybe you should consider simply using washable slip covers for your couch and armchairs. You can run them i the wash once a week.
Me? I have a leather couch, armchair and ottomans. My cats don't use them as scratching posts - they have plenty of wooden posts and planks in the garage and in their outdoor enclosure to satisfy their need. But inside the living room, I've trained them never to jump up or sit on the coach - they show no interest whatsoever to it now. To help them, I allow them to curl up on the ottomans, which I cover with heavy decorative washable blankets. On cleaning days, I chuck these in the wash and wipe down the leather. Everyone's happy.

Tip: It is springtime and your kitty will shed quite a bit at this time. It really really helps if you brush kitty's coat every day with an appropriate brush. Keeps the cat hair situation controllable. :)

Just brush the cats! I use one with a curved surface with fine metal tines. It has a button on the back that allows you to retract the tines and scoop off the fur. Forget changing the furniture and concentrate on the shedding. Some people's kids, Sheesh!

Leather would be the easiest to clean, however, you will have little kitty claw holes!! Sooooo, there isn't a "best" fabric -- just use the tape rollers and clean up the hair.

any rough textured fabric will work. If you get a regular pair of rubber dishwashing gloves, that should pick up any pet hair perfectly
