The petrol itself is very resistant to breakdown just sitting in a dark tank. However, other things can happen in storage that contaminate the petrol, including corrosion of the tank and condensation of water from the atmosphere. Either can make the petrol less than optimal for use as an engine fuel.

Everything deteriorates over time. Some takes years for this happen; Some will happen within minutes. There is something called half-life for everything. Even debris from nuclear blast will deteriorate over 999 years unless someone comes out with good chemical process to speed it up!!!

Yes Ive had motorbikes which I garage over the winter and you have to drain off all the petrol or it will corrode the fuel pipes and the pump will never work again.

Yes petrol does deteriorate.
IE. if you have lawn mower petrol left over from last year. It is worth chucking it and getting new

If it has 2 million to 5 million years, how you think... it can only get contaminated for example if closed in a metal recipient, then the oxid will contaminate the solution, otherwise it last for another 5 million years...

it crusts up i think which is why they recommend you drain a fuel tank and replace it with oil (totally forgot which type) if you're gonna leave it. Might also gum up the fuel tap

it does'nt improve for just sitting there and in hot weather it also evapourates.
