You need to tell your mom right now! She is not going to think you are crazy, she is going to get you to your doctors to correct this. Prozac isn't the right medicine for you, and you need to be off of it. Please tell her now, before you do something to yourself. Good luck honey, and don't worry your doctor and your mom will know what to do. It will be okay, you will feel better soon.

I am glad you are asking this question. I know I can help. I'm 17 and a few people at my school have felt similarly while using Prozac. It is a side affect that can occur. Therefore, if you feel comfortable enough to tell your mom, do so. She will not think you are crazy because it is a well documented side affect that she probably knew was a possibility when you started taking it. Therefore, it is your responsibility to let her know that the medicine is producing adverse effects.
If you don't feel comfortable, talk to your doctor. What you say with your doctor is private and your mom cannot find out. Doctor - patient confidentiality.

Whatever you choose, do not say nothing. The first step is getting help, and I am glad you are starting off here.
Let me know what happens, and be sure to your mom/doctor/nurse at school/someone that can help!

Go and tell her now! Would you rather have her going crazy over something happening to you? Go, move it!

A large new study added to previous research on Prozac shows that kids taking the drug have about a 50% higher risk of suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts than those getting placebos, says Robert Temple, director of the Office of Drug Evaluation at the Food and Drug Administration

Now, stop reading and go look for her.

Just tell her. Don't worry about her thinking you're crazy. Just go up to her and say, "Hey mom I think that I shouldn't take my prozac anymore, I don't like the way it makes me feel"...You could even explain the details and tell her that you think the medicine is what is causing it, and explain that you have done the research that supports your idea. Ask her to maybe take you back to the doctor if you think you need to get new medicine or help. This will not make her think that you are crazy, but that you are responsible are concerned about yourself.
I hope things work out for you. :)

You need to stop taking it immediately and tell your mother to call the doctor. One of the big side effects for teens on prozac is suicidal thoughts or actions. This means it's not you that wants to commit suicide it is the medication affecting you. Please tell your mother and stop taking the medication. You can even show her this posting. I have worked in the mental health field with teens for years and for some teens, this medication causes serious problems. It's just not the medication for you and you will be able to try another med out. But like I said please tell your mother and stop taking the medication immediately.

You absolutely need to tell your mother! I think you are too young to be on Prozac-you need to stop taking it and get help! I have read that drugs like these actually cause the suicidal thoughts and stuff you are having in teenagers. Tell someone and stop taking the drug immediately. Good luck to you!

PLEASE go tell your mother, call your doctor, something. You're right, there is evidence that prozac in kids or teens can cause suicidal thoughts. The fact that you asked means you want help to stop it. So, tell your parents, tell a friend, tell a school counselor, call your doctor, do something! Good luck and be safe!

In young people it certainly can cause suicidal thoughts. Im very proud of you that you realize this is not healthy and that you want to stop this. If you don't want to worry your mother i would advise you to tell her that you believe that your medication is no longer working for you and that you would like to be taken to your doctor in order to see if they can recommend something else that might work better. It is not uncommon to have to switch between several medications and some are definately better then others. Im on zoloft, only 50mls and that is working for me very well. Also you can talk to your doctor in private and if you wish to tell them that you have been having these thoughts and dont want to tell your parents then they cannot tell them anything without your permission. Good luck to you.

Honey, if you think that prozac is causing these feelings you do need to tell your mom. You need to keep your mom up on everything your feeling with all meds. These meds can be tricky but very helpful and you will need your mom to help you through this.
