I have a sever kidney infection and my left kidney is at the point of not functioning, There is an 11 milimeter kidney stone and it has an infection. Doctors say that i will be on antibiotics for a while to see if they even reach the infection. I have heard all sorts of things that antibiotics can do after a period of time... i.e turning my teeth yellow, thinning of hair, but no real answers. Please let me know!

Two major things: over time antibiotics become less effective as your body gets used to them, and also they make other meds including birth control less effective. In women, taking antibiotics may cause to get yeast infections- to prevent this eat lots of real yogurt (not the frozen kind) with live bacteria.

I am not a doctor, but I was on antibiotics for many years for acne, and the doctor told me that it was not a good thing for the very reasons you list. This was when I was a teenager. I am now fifty-something and in good health. My teeth are not the whitest, but my dentist told me to gargle with hydrogen peroxide.

You need to get your infection under control so they can treat you, so don't stop early. I know you are in pain. Hang in there. I know what a kidney stone feels like--I have had several. Drink plenty of water--and also lemonade. Again, do not stop the antibiotics. You need to knock out the infection. Don't mess with your health.

Good Luck!!!

It would be helpful to know which antibiotic you'll be taking. I doubt your doc would give you a drug that would harm you.
