I took one of my dogs down there today while the other one was at the vets.
There is a very long beach, a bit grubby but still nice. At the Northern end is Brean Down, an off-shoot of the Mendip hills which juts out into the Bristol Channel. Its a wildlife reserve and is good for birdwatchers. At the end of the down is an old defensive fort. Of Victorian origin it was manned during WW2 as a defence for the Bristol Channel. http://www.burnham-on-sea.com/breandown.shtml
Watch out for idiots in cars racing along the beach, and don't go out onto the mud.
Accommodation is usually in caravans, there are loads and loads and loads and loads of them. There is also a Pontins holiday camp. Brean leisure centre is a bit seedy with a few roller coaster type rides.
Numerous pubs and chip shops.
Some good pics here; http://www.tonyhowell.co.uk/berrow.htm Just add a lot of caravans.
Glastonbury, Cheddar, Wells are in reasonable driving distance.
Markets in the summer months on a Sunday are better than the weekday markets.
I think that covers it, have a good holiday.

Breen, nr Clevedon, has miles of beach when the tide is out, but beware, it turns into mud and quick-sand if you paddle out too far! Somerset is a lovely county. If you are looking for a bit more life, I should think Weston-super-Mare could provide it, just up the road.

I went there a few times as a kid, from what I remember it has a long, sandy beach. Quite clean, but not really a whole lot else. I don't think I'd want to spend five days there though, its more of a day trip.
