I was just at a Christening this weekend... there were coolers of beer, a rented margarita machine, and other hard liquor there, and the party lasted from about 3pm till long past dark. I thought it was strange...
My personal opinion is that baby showers, childrens birthdays, christenings, and other events centered around our children should be handled with the children in mind. I don't think alcohol is appropriate for these types of events. I know I'm in the minority, and I really don't think there's any harm in having alcohol there.... I just find it to be inappropriate. I didn't enjoy all the drunk ******* at my baby shower, I don't offer alcohol at any of my kid's parties, even if there are adults invited, and a christening..... I sat there thinking, we are here today to witness this child being offered to the Lord, now lets all get wasted!! WTH? Oh well, to each his own I guess.

I think a christening party is a religious event celebrating a child. Although I'm not against kegs of beer at parties, my thoughts are that this celebration should be all about the child.

The problem with some parents these days are that they have adult like activies at children events. There is no reason why there should be any type of alcoholic beverages at a childrens event. Especially at a Christening.

Your going to have a party to celebrate a childs "enterance" into his/her faith. Your asking if beer should be servered? I do not see how this is an issue. Your having a party for a CHILD, yes there will be adults here, I am sure children too. Do you want to see your children or any children see their family and or friends family get loaded? I do not think its a wise choice!

Well that depends on what kind of family and friends you have. If you have the "can't handle their alcohol and make fools of themselves and others" kind of people well then common sense would be NO. But if not then why not?? It's a party. Come on...you want it to be fun don't you? I mean if you guys have alcohol at all your other parties then why not this one? Shoot..we have beers in an ice chest on Easter...what's the difference?....Do it!

I think no. You are supposed to be celebrating the beginning of your child's religous life, not having a kegger.
