well it depends on how bad of a burn it is-normally by the 3rd day the redness is faded and you feel better, but i once had such a bad one it took a week and my legs were so bad they were swollen and it hurt to walk.
I kept using solarcaine alot to deal with the pain, and i learned my leson time and always use sun screen now.

The more you tend to it the better and faster it will heal. Use Aloe Vera Gel and apply to your burned skin several times a day. Aloe is amazing how it heals cuts and burns. There's something about the aloe that speeds up recovery. But you have to get something that is mostly Aloe. You will see alot of products out there that say they have Aloe in them but it's usually a very small amount. So read the bottle and make sure its at least 50% aloe.

If there is still a sting in the burn you can take a cool bath with a bottle of vineger, it is really helpful. Smells bad but it will make you feel so good. You can even just stand in the shower or bath tub and poor a bottle of vinegar over the burn, it's the best feeling. You can use any vinegar but the best to use is apple vinegar because it doesn't smell as bad. Stay out of the sun or tanning beds until the burn goes away.

It will probably be two to three days after initial sun exposure. If it hurts and you don't want to spend money on Solarcaine or Aloe Vera, try putting on plain white vinegar. You might smell like a salad, but it soothes your skin and takes the zap out of the sting.
