He probably figured you knew kung fu. See, stereotypes can work in your favor.
For real, I don't know the answer to that question. I did read an commentary by a conservative black author and he said HE crosses the street when he sees a young black male in a hoodie coming up the street!

I don't think we can intellectualise criminals. The very fact that he decided to mug anyone is a statement of his lack moral consciousness and warped thought processes at the time.
Criminals are individuals. The developing elements of that young man's life brought him to that moment and into a life of crime. His decision to victimise a black man over an Asian is less likely ( in my opinion) to be about race than fleeting opportunity.
However, I can't deny the consistently high statistics of black on black crime or the proportionately high rate of crime committed by blacks on any race. If I did, I would be part of the problem and not open to solutions.

I understand your question & I see and hear what you are concerned about everyday. I watch the news, and live in a crime ridden state, just like other people, and if you pay close attention, you will notice that African Americans aren't the only ones who commit crimes. But also, if you research all histories, you will notice that African Americans didn't know anything about violence/ crimes/ molestation and anythi ng else against their own people until they were exposed to those evil devils who took them from their homelands. Those same devils even committed crimes against their own people and ensleved them as well, because of Greed/ Lust/ Dictatorship. It's sickening to know that any true culture has been slandered and tainted by people of such nature including your culture. So for fact it's not just us. Crime is not a culture for anyone, crime is a disease that is spreaded like plague. It may not affect you physically such as bieing shot/ robbed/ ect. but it will effect you in your surroundings/ economy wise/ education wise/ family wise/and overall status. Just because some people feel as if they can run from the problems of crime and move to a better community, doesn't mean when you pay taxes, they will be cheap. You pay those high taxes to pay those well trained / well paid police officers to protect your community and arive on time when you call them. In the middle class and lower class communities/ you get crappy/ non concerned/ low paid officers who receives crappy section 8 pay/ same as some of the low class communities they really don't want to protect.
Crime affects that grocery store that you go to every week to provide food on your table because someone has made it a habbit to steal due to what ever reasons and the price of canned good was once .28 cents per can/ now it is .59 cents per can. That goes on in all neighborhoods/ communities/ White/ Asian/ Latino/ African Amer./ Jewish/ Pakastanian/ Iraian/ IT DOESN"T MATTER!!! SO GET IT RIGHT!! Everything is a learned experience and Sociology teaches you that as well. SO PEACE/ LOVE & SOULLLLLLL!!!

Variety of reasons.
Without knowing the perpetrator, I can't say for sure, but I guess it's because he thought he could get away with it. Blacks seem to have a higher level of distrust in cops, so perhaps the perpetrator thought that the cops wouldn't care if a black man got robbed. Maybe he thought that a black man wouldn't want to report this crime because it would entail reporting another black man.
Or....perhaps it's because asians are more likely to use kung-fu.

You're generalizing this one incident and assigning it to a whole race. Maybe he just wanted the sidekick. Maybe he saw that this was a "well-dressed business man" and thought his phone was more expensive. Just read or listen to the news. Criminals come in all races and most are not using race as a factor when commiting a crime

And this is an Etiquette question?
Did you have a phone out ready to steal genius? No? Then the mugger didn't see anything on you he wanted. Guaranteed that you would be asking "Why do black people commit crimes against asians?" if you were...

You're more likely to commit crime against people near and close to you, regardless of race. People of similar backgrounds tend to congregate together, so the chance of same race-on-race crime is high.
And the fact of the matter is Asian's the world over have commited civil, criminal, and war crimes against one another just as Africans and African-Americans have to each other as well. As have whites, lations, ad nasuem.
It's location, opportunity, and motive. Rarely is it skin color. Excepting the rare self-hating racist, I suppose, but that'd be quite the exception to the rule.

All people on earth commit crimes against those similar to themselves. Why would you single out Black people? This basically invalidates any logic of your question

Who knows. Maybe for the same reason whites commit crimes against whites. They might not even think about how they're targeting their own ethnic group, they're just going for what they think will be an easy target.
