Do you understand the Bible? The only thing I know that people pick and choose is that they pick God and ignore Jesus when the Bible clearly says that "no one can get to the father but by me(Jesus)!!"

I don't know what you're talking about. I take everything in the Bible literally. Other then the parables in the Bible, which are clearly metaphor for life, when the Bible says something is a certain way, then I believe it is a certain way. For example, Bible says hell is fire and brimstone and gnashing of teeth. And I believe it is exactly that.

Some things are obviously stories, like the parables of Jesus (except the one about Lazarus and the rich man). Other things are descriptive like the statue in Danial, and a lot of Revelation like the beast with the head of a lion with ten horns and a little one growing in the middle. Things like these are not literal, everything else is.

I've studied the Torah (OT) for quite some time now and generally most of the stuff in it is not meant to be literal. Views vary somewhat, but that's all explained in the Talmud, but we're allowed to make our own choices on it. For the most part our views on things are quites the opposite of those of Christians, although most don't seem to realize that.

Other than that, just what generally makes sense.

Because what you read in the bible at a certain time is what God really wants you to pay attention to.

I don't. Next question.

---edit--

In response to "Tabby", I wasn't aware that the gentiles were bound by the stoning commands found in the Law of Moses under the New Testament (John 8; Acts 15; Galatians 5). Now who is picking and choosing, I wonder?

Some of the bible can obviously not be taken litteraly. But why would you not take something you percieve to be wise litterally.(for the pieces that do make sense)

Who picks and chooses? Those people are fooling themselves. You believe all or nothing! And you can take that to the bank...

To back up warped ideas you hold close, to protect it from any conscientious* objection.

Because who can defend questioning god.. and they can always change the entire argument by implying that objecting to their personal truth/idea, is objecting to God himself/herself.

It's a coward's path. Or the path of one who's lost all faith in humanity, except themselves. Basically putting themselves on a pedestal equal to God, or closer than any1 else in the world.
