If all else fails, Bat good, alt good, gauge good, Replace external voltage regulator.Most Fords do not have an internal Voltage Regulator within the Alt. The voltage regulator is cheap at about $15.00 and simple to replace.Had this problem with another Ford.

Ok.. First thing..get a volt meter or test light independant of the gauge.....

there should be 12 volts at 3 places on the alternator if it has the 2 connector and battery terminal unit... should be 12 volts+ on the two outside pins on the 3 pin connector and 12v+ on the battery cable (actually all voltages should be the same and should be 13.8-14.0 on a good charging battery) going to the battery if battery is at 12.3 or so plus voltage.

Some have a mega fuse in line from the alternator to the battery (yours would be near the fuse box outside) if it's popped it won't charge...

I've also seen alternators from the big auto discount chains that will charge BUT will show the wrong voltage to the gauge and/or battery light with people blaming the car when it's the alternator they just replaced causing the issue (actually it's the regulator causing the issue as it's not fully completing the circuit)

As long as the battery fits and doesn't ark.. you should be fine.. (factory batteries are group 59 and group 65 battery size.. it's an industry measurement of battery size)

hi.. confirm voltage at the battery with a volt meter while engine is running. should read a steady voltage of at least 14volts.dc. if true, get voltage reading at the gage with voltmeter. . should get same readings with battery. if true, gage should show the same. if not., replace gage. enjoy;

I agree with someone else on here. It sounds like the Mega fuse is being overlooked. This happens alot on these vehicles expecially if someone by accident crossed the lines when trying to jump you or hooked up the jumper cables to the wrong spot on the doner car.

ether your battery is no good or altenater is shot take to about any parts store and they will test for free.
Or if you have a eletric tester start truck and check amps at battery should be around 15 17 amps when running at 1500-1800rpms if not your alt is shot
