Be kind and loving. Some boys aren't ready for dry nites until they are much older. I have helped potty train several young children and its always a good idea to hold off on drinks about 1-2 hours before bedtime. If its not too cold, try dressing him in just his pajama top and let him play bare bottom about an hour before bed. Keep an eye on him and when it seem like he may want to pee, take him into the bathroom. You can make if fun the both of you for him putting a few cheerios in the toilet and have him aim when he tinkles. Its a cute way to get the boy interested in using the toilet and to empty his bladder before bedtime.
You may find it necessary for him to wear a diaper to bed. He may feel badly about that but try telling him that diapers will protect him from having an uncomfortable a wet bed is and that he will out grow them in time. If your child is still wearing diapers, be sure to change him frequently to keep him fresh and dry. When diapered child is all bundled up for the cold winter weather, diaper changes are less frequent and diaper rash can occur.
Be kind loving and I wish you and your child good luck

I had this problem as a child. Looking back and knowing what I know now, the cause could be due to similar circumstances to mine.
Water pipes were in the wall and it turns out that whenever someone flushed the toilet at night it would stimulate my bladder. It didn't stop until I was 12. No one knew why until I studied nutrition years later.
My parents had a habit of watching the late news while having a snack. Usually toast and cheese or peanut butter. When I was 12 they began to allow me to join them. I think that's why I stopped peeing the bed. Here's why.
When you go to sleep your body digests the food in the stomach. At some point, all the food energy is burned up. The blood sugar level drops and because of this low energy state, it is hard to wake up. This is especially true for growing children because they have no stores of fat to draw energy from and because they need a lot of nutrition to handle their growth spurts.
So, by eating something high protien like peanut butter, cheese, eggs, or meat at night, I began to give my body foods that take a long time to digest thus keeping my energy stores high throughout the night. That made it easy for me to wake up when running water in the pipes made want to go. The problem stopped.
Your son might benefit by eating some high protien just before sleeping. You might want to think about the water pipes also.
One last thing I can promise you will not work, punishment. That just causes shame. Good luck!

He will outgrow it. Just pad the bed good and don't make a big deal out of. I had to learn the hard way and it can give a child a bad complex about himself if he's made to feel bad about himself. My son did the same thing, and I took him to a child psychiatrist who put him on some medication. The medication worked but it also changed his personality. I said I'd rather him wet the bed then for him to be like that. So ask your pediatrician and see what you are told but whatever you do, please don't fuss at him., this is something that he can't help.

You could try taking him to the toilet before you go to bed but as he was doing so well maybe you should look at whether something is bothering him as I have read that this could be a sign of a problem, maybe at school or if there have been changes in the home such as a new baby or it could be that something scared him when he got up one night.

It could be because of any of the reasons other people have mentioned. But I've also read in potty-training books that it could just be his body and organs aren't growing in sync--meaning his body is growing but his bladder is still catching up. This may be why he was fine before, but now has the problem. The books I read say it's completely normal, and they and my son's pediatrician say it's pretty common up until 5 or 6. Sorry I can't remember any of the book titles, but I found them by looking up the subject at our local library.
Another reason for it I read about was that some kids' sleep cycles may be immature. They sleep so deeply that they just don't wake up or feel anything when they need to go.

Has he been particularly active lately, and extra tired? I know my son is 5 and if we've had a really active day where he gets a ton of exercise, he will sleep so deeply he will occasionally wet the bed. Its totally normal for kids, especially boys at this age.
To help, I'd limit his fluid intake close to bedtime... and make sure he uses the bathroom right before bed. Good luck!
