I read a lot of questions regarding pit bulls. I always try to change peoples mind about the breed. I have worked with dogs my whole life, and I just love pit bulls. I have met pit bulls who wre raised properly who are loving family companions. My pit bull is one of them. My parents have always hated pit bulls, they were convinced that they were born mean. They would NEVER touch a pit bull, or even come close to one. But after they met my pit bull they changed their minds. The first day my mom met my dog, my dog was sitting on my mom's lap giving her kisses on her face, and my mom was loving it.
I'm just wondering, have you ever changed anyone's mind about pit bulls? Or has your mind ever been changed?

I appreciate Everyone's opinion. My pit bull is very friendly. She loves everyone. And honestly, if someone were to break in to the house, or anything like that, I do not believe she would protect me. She is not really a territorial dog, and has never showed the least bit of aggression. Any time someone new comes in the house she is very happy to meet them. She has already changed many people's minds about pit bulls. I understand why so many people fear pit bulls. But I also know the truth about pit bulls. They are great dogs when raised in a loving home that has rules, and sticks to those rules. I hope those of you who have not changed your minds yet meet a pit bull like mine, who will only show you love.

i'll tell you the truth, i hated pitbulls, i thought they were vile and just ugly, i had a german shepard/rotweiler (sp?) mix puppy, and i moved to a different city then she disappeared, so my boyfriend brought me home a "rebound puppy". he works at a rent-a-center and he delivers things, so hes always trying to bring home animals that people dont want anymore, well, he walks in the door and he's holding this 14 week old pitbull. i was like, get that ugly thing out of my house. so naturally he put it down and went back to work. ive had this dog for about 4 days, and i fell completely in love with it. i did alot of research on pitbulls saturday and from reports and other things they are made to be some kind of monsters, but Halo is a sweetheart, i still tell my boyfriend that shes ugly and i hate her, but i dont. people, like myself, judge things before they know they really know about them. people on the news make them out to be horrible and disgusting, saying how they are always killing or hurting someone or something, but pitbulls arent the only dogs with a mean streak, depending on how it is raised is how it will treat others. its just like raising a child, if you raise it wrong, its going to make mistakes, but the only difference is, if a child gets into a fight, they wont put it to sleep. i dont know, maybe its just me. but my mind has been changed because Halo isnt what i thought she was, because of what i heard, i judged her before i got to know her.

I'm one of those people who refuse to touch pitts. For the most part yes they are trained to fight by evil owners. There are those who have great owners and still end up turning. The fact is that most attacks are from pit bulls who don't seem to be abused and actually are inside family dogs who happen to get out and attack. What I heard was that it was more an ENZYME that pitbulls have that causes them to attack without warning. I myself would not own one and would not bother touching one unless its a puppy a few weeks old. More power to those who have some and are willing to I guess put their lives out there. Because NO ONE can be sure whether something like that can happen. So, I guess my mind has not changed I'm not against others owning them, I just wouldn't. By the way I had one of my dogs attacked by a pit. My dog was in my yard on a chain playing and the pit went right through the wood fence (the power of the dog) and they went at it. Luckily my dog was a bit bigger and didn't really get hurt much but the owner just stood there like an *** staring. I should have sued his ***. But I don't blame him, he probably knew better than to interferre with his own dog.

I think the best way to change anyones mind is by example and if we have better responsible owners for breeds like pit bulls, we may one day be able to get away from the labels that these poor dogs have had attached to them. It is totally the owner not the dog that should be banned!!
Good for you for being one of the good examples!!

I've changed several people's minds about Pits. You are right, they are EXTREMELY lovable animals! I guess what people don't realize is, if you treat any dog with neglect, or teach it to fight, tell me, what are they learning? Of couse they are going to be aggressive. That is the only survival technique they know. They have to fight to stay alive. Wouldn't a child do the same if raised in that manner? Anybody who fights those poor animals ought to be shot! Pits are great towards children!!
All a pit wants is love and attention, POSITIVE attention! They are strong animals, however, they are loving & faithful family dogs. My friends met our pits and couldn't believe that they were getting licked and snuggled by a Pit. They love them!!

My god, yes I have been one of those people. I use to think that Pit bulls were dangerous and refused to let my kids around them. There were so many news reports and such about how dangerous they were. Pits don't have a positive image. However, I have done alot of research after seeing my brothers dog. She is a little wild, but lovable. I now own a 6 month old female pit. Chloe has brought such joy to our lives. We have such a great time with her. She is lovable and loyal. We have alot left to discover of her, but I'm sure with love and the correct training she will stay just perfect for us. I am so glad I gave her a chance.

Sorry Alli, I know that this will probably be an unpopular view but I don't believe that the breed as a whole will ever be trusted by most people myself included. For me it just comes down to an issue of breeding. Is your Pit friendly? I'm sure he is, as are a lot of others but is he/she capable of protecting you? Is he/she capable of protecting you at the risk of its own life? Is he/she strong enough to permanently injure or kill someone?
Some breeds of horses have gaits/walks that can not even be trained to horses of different breeds. All of them horses yes, but drastic differences that can not be overcome.
Bottom line for me is that even though i am an animal lover, I am not willing to risk someones life or limb to try to prove a point. Sorry no pits for me.

I've tried with no avail. I've had experience with pit bulls in the past. They can very loving. My boyfriend has one and he is the biggest sissy you'd ever meet. LOL It is just in the way that they are raised. If the owner raises them to be mean then they will be. If they are raised to be nice then they will be.

I am not a pitbull dog owner(I do like them) but I do try to help people realize that they should not blame and try to ban an entire breed of dog because of a few bad displays of aggression. I have in fact had people who were dead set against pitbulls sign petitions and write letters against the ban on pitbulls, so I yes I have changed people's minds.
