A lot of my friends say that they have never been on a date before but they have had like 5 boyfriends. How could that be? Shouldn't you spend time with your boyfriend outside of school? We are all 14.

Dating is when you go on dates with a guy or a bunch of different guys and don't put any strings on your relationship. You see if you like this person and if you are interested in them enough to make anything official.

Having a boyfriend is when you are in a serious relationship where you go out, spend time together, and grow close. This is usually when you meet the other person's family and friends as well as become comfortable with that person.

However, it seems like many middle school and high school relationships jump the "dating" phase and guys ask a girl to be their girlfriend.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this ... because at 14 you can't drive or go out on your own all the time, so a steady relationship where you see each other at school and eat lunch together, and have your mom take you to the movies Friday night is what you can do.

Dating normally entails that there is no committment... By having a boyfriend/girlfriend, that entails that there is a mutal committment on both parts to be in the relationship... Some people never have a true date, but spend a lot of time hanging out and doing things together, but never go to a dinner and movie at the same time, especially those who can't drive... YOu should spend time outside school together, go to a game, school dance, shopping, eating at a restaurant (even McDonalds) and enjoy just hanging out!

Your friends might not be allowed to go on dates yet. But you should spend time outside of school with your boyfriend to strengthen your bond and to get to know each other better.

haha well technically a date is going out to some public place with a guy. but it doesnt necessarily have to be ur bf. it could just be a few dates and then u decide u dont like him. or something like that. but having a bf means u do almost everything with him. dating is more open...u can date a few people at the same time if its just testing the waters, but people usually dont do that till theyre much older. so i hope this makes sense. thats my best explanation

Well having a boyfriend can just be for a short time but then when you start going into dates and things like that then that is when you really get into a relationship.

Yes, dating is dating; going out with more than one person, getting to know others, having a boyfriend/signicant other means you are seriously dating each other and no one else. You're exclusive =) Hope this helps!
