I want to be a fighter pilot and want to know what the process is. I'd want to join the Air Force but don't know too much about the process and what happens before and during the career. Anyone have details?

You can't just ask a regular recruiter because they recruiter enlisted-men. You need to talk to some one at the academy. And you need to look into Officer candidate school and things like that.

I was an enlisted Airmen in the US Navy and I did work with F-14 Tom Cat's (VF-31 and VF-101) and being around the real thing was far better then then movie.

My cousin just retired from the Air Force as a fighter pilot, and a test pilot. You need to get an appointment to the Air Force Academy. 4 year college. You need to contact your local Congressman, or United States Senator. They make the appointments.

being a fighter pilot will be hard, since it's a very competitive spot. i'm not too sure about the beginning, but when you start flight school, you'll be flying trainers (T-37s or T-38s?... or maybe the Jayhawk if you're gonna fly bombers). after that, you'll start training and flying in the specific aircraft you're going to use. i know this seems really incomplete, but it's gotta help a little since you asked for the process. =]

btw, they say that to be successful in flight school, you'd need these qualities:

1. excellent hand-eye coordination
2. excellent ability to prioritize
3. have a stomach for combat

My husband is one. You have to be an officer, so you need to first get a 4-year degree, but it doesn't have to be from the AF Academy (although my husband went there). Then you just try and get a spot as a flyer. Sadly it's SUPER competitive, and it's more about who than what you know.

Like most people I would say.... ASK A RECRUITER!! You might also be smart enough to go to the Air Force web site where you can ask questions from people in the Air Force.

If your on this board asking those questions then your not the kind of person who should be deciding who lives and who dies! Stay out of the military ,you don't belong and never will! They will have you for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
