Yes, I agree with you and I am a Christian. (Although I think I am discovering that I am not the "usual" kind...)

LOL...you know, you name it, and there WILL be somebody who rejects it.
Generally speaking, though, sure, we can all agree that it's a good idea to promote compassion and reduce human suffering. Now, what do we mean by that, exactly? THERE'S where the problems arise. For example, A feels that part of "promoting compassion" would be to stop persecuting homosexuals in the name of religion; B feels that the most "compassionate" thing we could do would be to dissuade the homos from their "evil lifestyle choice." Each sincerely believes that he's looking at the "problem" from the "correct" angle. The road to hell...etc.

the reduction of human suffering is a common response from atheists as a source for morality that doesn't require the bible. I'm pretty sure that Atheists will agree with this proposal. I kinda' wonder if all the theists will. This would mean that you (or your god) cannot punish the non-believers.

There is one thing that everyone can agree on. Each of us is going to die. We can also agree that none of us knows when. With this as our motivation, couldn't we then all agree that this is a precious human life we are leading? We then might be able to agree that any experience of suffering we now have - excluding suffering due to the nature of things like momentariness - we created through our actions. Maybe then we could agree that likewise any hope we could have to eradicate suffering in ourselves or others depends on what kind of seeds we put in the ground. You can't have tulips when you plant daffodils.

I like pizza?
That will probably get some naysayers as well though....
I hope everyone here wants to reduce human suffering, the problem is exactly how to do it. That is where the contention will come right back into play. Some will insist that we include salvation pamphlets in with the food and medicine......

I think we should all team up and keep our children safe from sexual predators. For most people at the end of the day it doesn't matter what religious beliefs we have or do not, our children are not safe. I think we can all agree on this evil.
