My new Border Collie will be living outside in a huge kennel and run that we bought for him to sleep in at night. I have put a dog bed in the kennel, its a waterproof flat bed, big enough for him to sleep on.
It is his first night tonight and I am concerned he won't be warm enough. Should I put some blankets in there too? I live in the UK and it is spring time at the moment. Advice needed.

Thanks.

My ex partner had police dogs who lived in an outside kennel, my uncle is a farmer and his dogs sleep in a barn. There is nothing wrong with dogs living outside it doesn't mean I love him or spend less time with him.

Yes make sure you do put blanklets in his house because he will get cold just let us.

My Border Collie went through that awhile back. My best advice for you is to put an extra blanket or two in there along with the bed. In case it rains maybe put a tarp over the top of the kennel. And other then that, put water and food in there and he should be okay.

Can you put a crate in the kennel? If you can put a crate in (one that has solid walls) it will stay warmer inside because of his body heat and you can drape a towel or a blanket over the entrance to really keep the heat inside. Hay is a good insulator and if you put lots of hay inside he'll be nice and cozy.

No offence, but you've "missed the boat". Its great to have a dog run for your pet, but its more humane to keep him inside at night. Pets need to feel safe and secure, AND LOVED, especially at night when they can become lonely. How would you feel if you had to be alone and locked away from your family every night? Please just think about it.

Haha can't be too concerned, or you wouldn't make him live outside. He wouldn't be cold if you would do the right thing and let the poor guy sleep in the house.

If you have a horse blanket that would be really good but if not any blanket will do.

I suggest maybe some blankets as well, but ones that you wont have to worry about ripping. :]
