When I get out of bed in the morning or have been sitting for a short time, I am unable to put my right heel on the floor because of the severe pain. I have looked for information on the net and have found Plantar fasciitis which has the symptoms I experience. I haven't been to the GP yet. In my job I am standing for long periods and end up shuffling about because of foot and heel pain. I am miserable at this stage, and wonder if anyone has a magic solution or more information.

You have my sympathy. I had this condition some years ago but don't leave it as I did. Go to your GP and get it seen to. There are cortisone injections which, although painful when they are administered, do give relief for several weeks. The GP would probably also refer you to a pysio for exercises which can help. The best shoe supports I have found are Superfeet and can be bought from all good sports shops. They are not cheap but well worth it. They come in 3 grades to match the type of shoes you want to wear. I use them in all my shoes whether walking boots or smart heeled shoes and wouldn't be without them and they last for ages. There is no magic cure if it is plantar fasciitis but these might just help.
Good luck - hope you get some relief soon

Before you get out of bed, do some stretching, i.e. point your toes to the ceiling so you get a good stretch in your calf. Do that for about five minutes. Also icing your heel two to three times a day will help. Take ibuprofen three to four times a day for the inflammation, 400-600 mg. More stretching to do is standing on a step with your heel hanging off the edge or try the "runner's" stretch against a wall. I had plantar fasciitis and did all the above, and it worked. Good luck!

I am a nurse and have suffered from plantar pain for a couple of years. The docs just say take anti-inflammatories and analgesics for the pain, but I know this was just masking the symptoms.

Anyway, I got this guide and a couple of days of following it my pain is completely gone. And I know it's really gone cause I'm not on any meds so if there was any pain left I'd know it.

I think it is often worth an X-ray to exclude a bony spur, which is treated surgically. Being honest though I have only found 2 in 30 years. Physio or local steroid injection are the 2 most helpful treatments.

Have heard that rolling your foot over a can or tin for a few minutes in the morning, can help as it stretches the fascia slightly and helps with the pain. Orthotic insoles, biomechanic evaluation, steroid injections and even surgery may help. Seek help from a podiatrist whose job it is to help you sort this problem out.

Start by getting arch supports - good ones cost about £20 and will be invaluable.
Go see your GP as soon as possible.
Good Luck!

It could also be achilles tendonitis. You will probably need to take time out for physical therapy. There is no magic bullet for this foot disorder.
