I lost my mom awhile back to an abusive husband and my sister and I are getting matching tattoos but I am not sure yet what I want to get. Any ideas? I am thinking of a quote inside of a dove outline.... any ideas, thoughts, or even awesome quotes are appreciated!

Ignore the people telling you to think twice about the tat. If you want it, get it. Memorials are for the living, not the dead, and if you're mother cares for you she'll want you to do whatever you want.

The dove is nice, and some of the other suggestions. If you want to refine that further, consider something that works in an interest of your mother's. For example, if she was into roses - maybe a rose with her name, a quote written below/in the flower (if she/you had/have religion, that's a good source), or similar.

I tend to want pictorial stuff for most tats. I feel like it says more than words (worth 1000 words, in fact).

If you don't know what precisely to get, don't sweat it. Artists love being given a little leeway on a piece, and all the ones I've talked to about it like helping design something like this. Just bring the basic ideas - you & your sister - and they can work something out. They might even suggest something no one here has thought of.

I just got a memorial tattoo for my 13 yr old cuz who was killed by a hit-and-run, my uncle, and my grandmother. I'm sorry for your loss. I have three hearts with their intials inside and R.I.P. going down to my hand.

But a butterfly with her name up top and the date below.

It is best to keep it as simple as possible.
The dove would have to be quite large for
you to have a verse in it. How about a simple
outline of the dove, with a heart in it, with the
word Mom in the heart.
A dove means purity , love, faith, and
freedom to me. She will always be in your heart.
Think of designs that represent that.
Think Before You Ink.

Your life can only perceive
What the mind is open to,
Hold only what the heart can feel.

i got a tattoo in memory of my dad (i witnessed his murder when i was 5) He had a tattoo of Jesus hands praying with my name under it. I recently got the same tattoo, but instead of my name, its his. With the words rest in peace daddy above it. Maybe you should do something like that, or if you're just looking for a quote....was there a nickname you had for your mom, or something that she always called you. for example, if u always called her your fuzzy wuzzy bear, you can have the dove outline and in the middle say ,"You'll always be my fuzzy wuzzy bear."

I found a website with poems for deceased mothers, maybe you should read some and pick a quote that you like.

I'm so sorry for your loss...

Have you considered a butterfly? A butterfly generally represents the resurrection, life after death...or metamorphosis and transformation. Maybe a butterfly with your mom's name and date of birth and death written in the body?

That is really a sweet idea.
Awesome quotes...mmmmm...you may want to go to the library and take out some books with poetry and have a stanza of something that means something to you and your sister-something that reminds you of your mom.
I am deeply sorry for your loss.("Your" meaning you and sis)
