that is on your right side, behind your ribs, but kinda close to the center of your chest. But I'm not talking about kidneys. Whatever it is, every once in a while, it hurts. What's wrong???

There are the gall bladder and the liver there.
Most common thing to give intermittent pain there is gall bladder stone.

gallbaldder and or liver....I am having the same problems and it's normally caused by eating a really high fatty meal you could also be crushing or trying to pass a stone....if the problem persists and especially if it becomes so painful like mine that it lasts a few days then do not hesitate to go see a doctor it can become very painful and serious. They will normally give you what's called a GI cocktail it's basically lidocaine and milk of magnisia (sp) that settles the nerves that is causing those muscles to contract so severely.

I would say your liver. After drinking alcohol you can sometimes get a bit of an ache there, as your liver goes into overdrive!

Its quite normal, but if the pain persists, or gets worse I'd see a doc.
