I would talk to your 19 month old about what's going to be happening soon. I would say, a baby will be born soon and you will have a brother or sister. Mommy will need you to be a big person and help her out with the baby. I would also read books related to this topic and also point out any babies you might see when youre out and about together. I would say oh look at that baby we are gonna have a baby with us soon and then you will be mommy's big helper. Between now and when the baby does arrive I would talk about the baby and add phraise for the 19 month old now so that way having a new baby isn't going to be a negative thing. Good Luck!!!

You'll be surprised how easily they adjust. I am pregnant with #4. They are all roughly 2 years apart. I talked to them about the coming baby. Some cute books to get from the library are: Little Tiger's Big Surprise, It's Not Fair, Little Rabbit's Baby Brother. I'm sure there are others. I always bought a new toy for the older one to get at the hospital and taped a picture of the big brother/s inside the baby's crib at the hospital. I think it helped them feel like they were important to the new baby. I found a link with more ideas for you.

prepare yourself! my first 2 are 2 days from being a yr apart. i went ahead and put my 1st in a toddler bed, organization is the key. you can teach you child that there is a baby in mommys belly and start taking he/she to play groups. let him get use to other babies. but show so much love they get too big too quick!
