Most Christian sects believe in the so-called Apostolic creed, the gist of which is:
- Incarnation of Christ
- His death and resurrection
- The immortality of the soul and judgment

What they differ on is chiefly
- The authority of the scriptures (the bible) in worship/daily living vs Church authority
- The efficacy of faith versus tradition
- The application of grace versus works in working out one's salvation

As Christianity has been the religion of the West for about 1700 years it has been modified to suit the temperament, claims and proclivities of Princes and the governed alike. In the last 200 years, Christianity has developed from a Western religion into a world religion. People in Africa and Asia have adapted Christianity to suit their socio-politic context. Therefore, it has taken different forms, which on close inspection really have a lot in common.

However, you argue that the Koran is one book. That follows from your preceding argument that there is only one form of Islam. That is clearly not the case.

As in Christianity there is broad division of the Muslim world into Sunni and Shia. Though both branches believe in the same 5 pillars they have also diverged. The Sunnis believe that the Umma should be led by the teachings (the Sunna) of the Prophet while the Shia believe that the Umma should be led by the blood descendants of the Prophet. This difference, like in Christianity, has led to countless wars and strife.

Just like in Christianity, Islam has also taken various forms. In the US for example, Islam arose among the urban Black population as a means of asserting pre-colonial African pride in the Civil Rights struggle of the 50's and 60's. It had nothing to do with the doctrines of the faith per se.

There is one book in both religions but many different expressions of and relation to the book.

All the main denominations believe he was the Son of God and died for our sins, and rose again from the dead, and ascended to Heaven, sent the Holy Spirit, God's presence that is, to the Church (ie all genuine believers), and will come again at the end of the Age.
Orthodox, Copts, Roman Catholics, Protestants, Pentecostals as broad kinds of denominational groupings accept these basic beliefs.

Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses deny key aspects that all mainline denominations accept (Nicene and Athenasian creeds define the core christian beliefs.)

If you believe on Him as saviour and Lord, you are born again in your spirit, and receive forgiveness of sins. But God can't and won't allow that crucial change to happen unless Jesus is accepted as Son of God and Saviour. When a person believes he receives eternal life and the Holy Spirit, a guarantee of Gods will, and validation that the gospel message is indeed not a lie or corrupt. This is why religious leaders who deny these beliefs are termed antichrists.

You are a little off on the beliefs. The belief is simple, he died, was returned to life. That is the same in most main streams. As far as any religion goes, there are always splinters. All major faiths have them. For instance there are extremist that believe killing others is just fine...
(now if you took this to be muslim, christian, judiaism, etc.... there are historical basis for this) ... then there is the translations to other languages which always causes a headache bar none, no exceptions... but I digress. What was your questions again? Different versions you say... interesting

I know that original Christian beliefs, that is Catholic beliefs, have not been modified because I can read the writings of early 2nd Century Fathers of the Church and see that what they believed is exactly what the Catholic Church still teaches today. I can also look at Protestantism and see dozens of beliefs that no Christian on earth ever heard of until a few hundred years ago, and in some cases less than a hundred years.

When quite a long time has past and valid period for the teaching of that religion is over, such anamolies are bound to occur to caution the wise people to look for the new as God's attributes are not suspended.

The Quaran was interpreted literally in the past and the present. It was also interpreted in a metaphorical sense which didn't please some. For instance, is the Quaran created or uncreated. If it is Allah's word, did it already exist? Such questions were discussed by Muslim scholars in the past and no doubt today.
