Con Ed workers getting high

ConEd provides steam to some buildings in Manhattan. The "smoke" from the manholes are relief valves for the steam distribution system.

Never been there but I'm guessing it must be because warm water runs down there and when it reaches the cold NY air, it condenses forming what looks like steam or smoke. Same thing happens when you breathe into cold air.

It's smoke direct from the fiery pits of hell.
Or it might be steam from the leaking pipes of a public heating system.

Think about it.... everything in New York is BIG!!! Like Skyscrapers, and tall Hotels, etc. It is where their waste water goes in the sewers.

Also a sign that the weather is bitter cold too!!! if you think logically, you will get the idea where I am coming from.

I think it just a kind of release from all that goes on under the city. I was there last year and i noticed that it actually smelt of food!

That smoke is coming from the subways travelling underneath the street.
