I think that as long as you two are on the same level that you can have a relationship. What if your parents say that they dont mind because they know that you are mature. Should age really matter? If two people like each other and care for each other then why should it matter legally? I can see maybe like 16 and 30 but a few few years difference is no big deal to me so what do you all think?

The age difference is an issue when one is an adult and another is a minor. In your example you pose the question with regards to a 16 and 21 age gap. This gap (5 years) is not a 'bad thing' however it's the maturity gap that is the problem.

A person that is 21 is considered an adult with adult responsiblities and adult consquences to their actions. A person that is 16 is considered a minor with less responsiblities that is more in line with their maturity level. If you were to move this 'age gap' relationship up a few year to say a 21yo and a 26yo the problem is less as there is an assumbed level of maturity of both parties.

The problem isn't that the gap in age... but the gap in maturity.

Oh.. did I mention that it was illegal?

As for 'you two are on the same level' I say, OMG are you kidding me.. a 21yo with a maturity level of 16yo? Or... OMG... a 16you who thinks they are mature as a 21yo? In either case... bad things are waiting to happen.

By the way... did I mention it was illegal?

Hope this answers the question.

16 & 21 is different from 18 & 23. I think that would be much more acceptable. It is true that someone who is 21 would be a lot more matured, including sexually & you cant have sex with a minor. I think the older you get the more accetable age differences are because they are indeed on the same level. my parents are 9 years apart, my mom being 41 and they're fine but if they were like 11 and 20, that would be sick, dont you agree? Depends on the people & they're intentions. In some cases, I am sure its fine. thats my opinion :)

If a 21 year old is on the same level as a 16 year old then something is wrong. My husband is 27 and I am 22 so I dont see a problem with it. When I was 18 I was dating a guy that was 27 and that was a stupid move on my part! I guess I wasn't ready to settle down then :)

Age doesn't matter as long as the both of you are adults. I don't think a 16yr old should be dating a 21 yr old. Sometimes you might think you are at a certain level but when you realize your not it's when you've ended up hurt. Take your time as you get older you will realize what the true difference in age really is. It's not the number but the experience and knowledge that when something shouldn't be done, it's not done.

If you are 16 and he is 21 it is not good. 18 would be different, but 16, no. He's out of high school, in a different world now. Underage is underage, period. 18-19 is the highest you should go right now to be appropriate. When you're 18 you can date whoever you want, although should stick with guys under 30 if possible even then.

I would question the motive of the 21 year old. What would he want with a 16 year old CHILD? No 16 year old is mature enough to date an adult. Pick someone your own age.

If the 16 year old's parents will not consent to the relationship then it is a no go. Age doesn't matter so much when you get in your late 20's, say if you were 26 and he was 31. But, right now, you have to listen to your parents.

I think age matters at different times like 16 your in high school and 21 is an adult looking at what they are going to do in life later when both are in there 20's its different so I think that they both should be adults

The day after my bf turned 21, i was 16. That was only for one day because our birthdays are 2 days apart. So thats the only acceptable time. SORRY, too young. Now if you were 17.....i'd say go for it.
